A Journey of 1,000 Miles...The First Step
Hello,
My wife has always said that I should do a blog on music as I am a "musiholic". I have been playing guitar for over 2o years and you know why I started?....to meet women or "girls" as they were called back then. Along the way I have gained a greater love for music, its grooves, its harmony and its magical power over my body. I am not talking about devil possessed gyrations but rather a head bobbing or a surprised look at my right hand picking along to some cool lick on the radio. My dating days are over and one day I plan to serenade my wife from the street to our 2nd floor bedroom. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that she won't like "Rock you like a Hurricane" by the Scorpions. I wonder why I didn't score more in my teens with my long hair with an "axe" in hand?
I can listen to a band and can assess if they have the "stuff" to be successful. It's not just about the music though. Marketing is the main factor behind success. In a perfect world, the music should come first and the music companies seeing something of value should bid to sign the musical act offering the best deal possible. Following this stage, the musical act should be marketed at a level commensurate with the music companies' access to resources. This is a little of Musical Economics 101 but if you studied Economics in school, you know that there are exceptions called Market Failures. Some of these "failures" in the economics sense but successes in reality include Britney Spears, Paris Hilton's short lived musical alter ego and Milli Vanilli. Anyways, given these challenges to my crystal ball (or Magical Eight Ball), I will do my best to assess the works of musical performers.
This Blog will share with you my relationship with music. Without getting too weird like an inebriated guest at a wedding who thinks he is being so profound, I'd like to share in a way that you can relate to. Reviews of bands' past, present and upcoming releases are a great way for you to agree, passively tolerate or even disagree vehemently. Our journey has begun and in two days, a new year will begin as well. Happy New Year.
